INS Vikramaditya, the largest warship operated by India, was commissioned into the #IndianNavy on 16 November 2013. A state-of-the-art ship, she is equipped to operate a versatile range of aircraft and is fitted with a variety of integral weapons and sensors that are capable of countering threats and security challenges in all three dimensions. Manned by a team of about 145 officers and 1, 800 sailors, she has an overall length of 285 metres and maximum breadth of 60 metres. Her 23 decks scale a height of 60 metres from keel to her highest point. The sight of this 46, 000 tonne mega structure of steel gracefully steaming across the ocean at a speed of around 30 knots, launching and recovering her integral aircraft is at once reassuring and awe-inspiring. The ship operates the Mig 29K/KuB aircraft, which is a potent fourth generation plus multirole combat platform capable of carrying out long range surface, shore and ship strike missions. It can also support surface force and landing troops and undertake fleet air defence missions. The aircraft carries a lethal combination of Air-to-Air and Anti-Ship Missile and guided bombs. In addition, the ship operates Kamov, Chetak and Sea King helicopters for various roles. The meaning of 'Vikramaditya' is to be brave and powerful like the shining Sun. The crest depicts the mythological Gandeev bow with four arrows. It also shows four winged arrows on the periphery of the bow which signifies four cardinal directions with the Sun and Blue sea waves in the background. The motto in Sanskrit, ‘Durakshaya Sarlakshaya’ means ‘Strike Far, Strike Sure’. Best NDA class in Pune ( Dignitary )
