INS Tarkash, the second of the Teg class of stealth frigates, was commissioned into the #IndianNavy on 09 November 2012. The ship has a displacement of 4, 000 tonnes, a length of 125 metres, a beam of 16 metres and is capable of speed upto 30 knots. She is manned by a crew of 250 men and is equipped with an array of weapons and sensors which include surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles, medium and short range guns, anti-ship and anti-submarine torpedoes, rockets and advanced electronic warfare and communication suite. The ship is capable of operating Kamov 31 Airborne Early Warning, and Chetak search and rescue helicopters. This enables the ship to perform a wide variety of roles including coastal and offshore patrolling, monitoring of Sea Lines of Communication, maritime diplomacy, counter terrorism and anti-piracy operations. The name 'Tarkash’ means a quiver for holding arrows. The crest design depicts a hand emerging from white and blue ocean waves with a quiver full of arrows against a sky blue background, signifying strength of the ship’s arsenal.
