Indian Naval Air Squadron 343 was commissioned into the #IndianNavy on 17 January 2011 as the second UAV Squadron. The Squadron operates Heron Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) for undertaking surveillance, maritime reconnaissance, electronic warfare and damage assessment during peace and wartime. The unit also conducts ab-initio training of pilots on Heron RPA. The aircraft is fitted with state-of-the-art maritime patrol radar, EW and communication suites for carrying out sustained surveillance missions along International Maritime Border and provide real time video and radar data of the area. ‘INAS 343’ has been numbered as per sequential serial number of the Air Squadrons of the IN. The crest depicts the bird ‘Osprey’ with the silhouette of an UAV in the background. It symbolises long endurance and sharp vision of the bird, capable of locating its pray over vast areas of the sea, a function that is very similar to that performed by an UAV.
