The ship has a displacement of 2, 000 tonnes, a length of 85 metres and a beam of 13 metres. She is manned by a crew of 15 officers and 185 sailors. The ship is fitted with an array of the modern hydrographic, oceanographic, geophysical equipment including state-of-the-art digital survey and processing system, multi-beam echo-sounding system, GPS survey system and sound velocity profiling system, which together provide the ship the capability of mapping seabed features accurately and meeting stringent international standards laid down by the International Hydrographic Organisation. The ship carries four survey motor boats and one integral Chetak helicopter in support of survey operations. The primary role of the ship is hydrographic survey operations, and she can also undertake coastal and offshore patrol, coastal security, HADR and anti-piracy operations and can also operate as a hospital ship. The name ‘Sarvekshak’ means a pathfinder, signifying the role of the ship as a pathfinder to a Seafarer. The ship’s crest depicts a survey ship in White with Five Prongs depicting a Multi-beam Sonar System pinging the bottom. A beam emanating from the ship represents the sonar’s capability of insonifying the complete sea bottom. Undulated sea bottom portrayed in the lower part of the crest signifies the ship’s ability to identify the complete sea bottom and all underwater navigational dangers.
