Indian Naval Academy was instituted into the #IndianNavy on 08 January 2009 at Ezhimala, Kerala. INA provides basic and advanced training for all officers joining the Indian Navy. The academy has full-fledged laboratories for BTech course, simulators, baffle range for weapon firing and an Olympic standard swimming pool. The faculty of INA comprises officers, sailors and civilians of professorial cadre. The flagship Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC), providing BTech degree on completion, runs for four years and other courses run for a period ranging from one month to one year. The training at INA is anchored on the motto ‘Vidya Amritam Ashnute’ meaning ‘Be Immortal Through Knowledge’ and is guided by the Indian Navy’s core values of Duty, Honour and Courage. The Naval Academy has been in existence for over 50 years and was first established in Kochi (within INS Venduruthy) in 1959 and later shifted to INS Mandovi, Goa in 1987 commensurate to the increase in training requirements of a growing Indian Navy. The plan to have a permanent Naval Academy, that would provide world class training requirements of the 21st century Indian Navy, was realised with the foundation of INA on 08 January 2009. In recognition of the yeoman service rendered by the institution in training and shaping officer cadets over the last fifty years at three different locations - Kochi, Goa and Ezhimala - The Hon’ble President of India and the Supreme Commander of Indian Armed Forces, Shri Ram Nath Kovind awarded the President’s Colour to the Indian Naval Academy on 20 November 2019. The President’s Colour is the highest honour that can be bestowed upon any military unit and will be a source of inspiration and encouragement for generations of trainees.
